The Lemon Tree curriculum.

Lemon Tree Montessori curriculum covers a wide range of subjects and is closely integrated with all the Early years learning goals as set out by Ofsted. These are personal, social and emotional development, communication, language and literacy, mathematics, knowledge and understanding of the world, physical development and creative development.

The classroom has different areas. The areas are related to the Montessori and Early years learning goals.

Practical Life - Personal, Social & Emotional  Development

This helps the child to gain confidence, independence and Concentration.

Sensorial - Mathematics and Language

Through sight, sound, taste and touch the child learns about the environment and helps in later life with maths and language skills.

Language, Literacy and Communication.

There is a quiet book corner with books full of colourful pictures and words to give your child a wonderful introduction to reading and a love of books.

The Montessori language scheme has pink, blue and green boxes that introduces the child to language phonetically and early grammar. The child is also introduced to the phonetic sounds and shapes of the alphabet.

Mathematics

Exercises are introduced initially in the physical form using equipment such as the large number rods and spindles. The child can learn to count by feeling the rods and spindles. Numerals are then introduced. Montessori equipment is designed to introduce the child to numbers, size, weight and quantity.

Cultural - Knowledge of the World.

The child learns about the environment and knowledge of the world. We have activities relating to biology, geography and we learn about different cultures.

Physical

We have a wide range of fine and gross motor skill activities. For example, balancing on the line and beams, balls, hoops and sport activities.

Creative

We carry out a wide range of creative activities including a cookery activity at least once a week. The craftwork is carefully thought out so that the child can undertake this without difficulty. It is their work after all.  The craft is related to our projects. The children have a wide range of materials to stimulate their imagination and creative development.
